Melbourne born artist, Mark Schaller is returning to his roots in his upcoming exhibition inspired by the streets and architecture of the vibrant inner city Melbourne suburb of Richmond. These animated streetscapes depict the industrial warehouses, terraces, laneways and boulevards that make up the character of this cosmopolitan district.
Schaller extends a variety of mediums, employing painting and assemblage, bringing to life these streetscapes that he first fell in love with as a boy. Mark, his wife and two daughters continue to live there today in a landmark house that is widely known to both artists and locals.
These works are immensely joyous and employ a youthful, vibrant palate that gives a lyrical insight into not only Richmond’s industrial and nostalgic past, but also the striking urban jewel that it is known today.
This exhibition is Schaller's second with Scott Livesey Galleries and follows the much acclaimed ‘Wildfire’ exhibition 2007 which documented the devastating Grampians bushfires of 2006. Further artwork from this series was also exhibited at the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery in a group travelling exhibition titled ‘After The Fire’ in 2006.
A founding member of ‘Roar Studios’, Schaller held his first exhibition at the age of twenty and has since exhibited in numerous group and solos exhibitions both within Australia and overseas. Schaller’s work is in the collections of the Australian national Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria and most regional Australian art galleries. |
