YUKULTJI NAPANGATI (born circa 1970)
Acrylic on Belgian linen
107 x 122 cm
This painting depicts the country through which a group of women travelled during
their journey from the rockhole and soakage water site of Yunala, west of the
Kiwirrkura Community in Western Australia. The women camped at Yunala before
continuing their travels east through Marrapinti, Ngaminya and on to Wirrulnga,
just to the east of the Kiwirrkura Community. While at this site the women
gathered the edible roots of the bush banana or silky pear vine Marsdenia australis,
also known as yunala, which is plentiful in the region.
