I have been painting portraits for years, mainly
concentrating on the face. I wanted to evolve these portraits by adding
emotion expressed through the body as well. I have also taken photographs
for years -doing fashion shoots, stills for film, and music clips.
I did a series of nude photographs of a few fashion models I knew.
It was a huge learning curve. My initial ideas and thoughts of what
I could achieve were challenged.
Based on my love of Warhols work (in particular his portrait and figure
work) I persevered. My aim is to represent the female form in a way that parallels
the sexy, contemporary fashion and photographic magazines. It has been a challenging
and rewarding process.
I won t stop working on the childrens/adolescent adventure paintings.
They are very important to me. In fact, in finding another arena to work in
I feel I can bring new eyes to my previous main body of work. Any time spent
on the nudes makes my time spent on the childrens adventure work seem
fresh and vice versa. So to work on two different perspectives I feel helps
breathe new life into each approach.
