Hunter’s luminous oil paintings capture
a certain light that resonates a delicate tension between subconsciousness
and reality. The canvas is a space where he finds the desire for
invention. This drive then opens up to the emergence of accidental
forms, provoking and taunting the imagination. For Todd, the canvas
is a space that “is pregnant with movement, menace and possibility
for decay, metamorphosis, rejuvenation and resurrection”. The “unformed” thoughts
are often dark surrealistic excursions that haunt and fill the spaces
of his canvases.
