Colin Pennock

BIO

My place in the landscape.

A lot of the thoughts and ideas are common. Everybody feels the same things. This is why people have the need to own a house or be reassured in some way.

The work is kind of sketchy because it is unresolved. Each statement can be contradicted. Each mark can be remade a different way.

This work is about vulnerability. Its about just putting something down. Just making like a diary entry.

When I paint I feel something but I don't know what its all about until after, its just some sort of gesture of what I feel about things as they happen. Like still photography in a moving picture world. Its about slowing down the clock and reflecting on the moment.

The work is also about my view of structure. Financial restraints, family religion, basically all of the things in life that you put in pigeon holes, all the things that you try to order or make sense of.

The gestures and the way that the paint is applied is about the emotion towards those things. The energy which is contained within in each mark is almost about frustration and containment as well as fulfillment, so it all lives in the same place. Things of harmony and things of disconnect. Peace and mayhem living in the same landscape.
