GEORGE TJUNGURRAYI (born circa 1943)
Acrylic on Belgian linen
122 x 61 cm
The two concentric roundels in this panting depict designs associated with the sites
of Ngampalnga, a large rockhole slightly west of the Kiwirrkura community and
Nginkulwalunya, soakage water site on the western side of Lake MacDonald.
In ancestral times a Snake Ancestor passed through these sites before travelling west to
Nyinmi, near Jupiter Well. This ancestral snake, as part of the Tingari Cycle of events, later
continued travelling west.
Since events associated with the Tingari Cycle are of a secret nature no further detail was
given.
